First Day Guide

Practical first steps after joining StoneHavenSMP — spawn orientation, finding a build spot, and respecting other players.

Your first day on StoneHavenSMP should feel exploratory, not stressful. Take your time.

Arrive and orient

  1. Join with the shared modpack and confirm voice chat settings if you use Simple Voice Chat.
  2. You spawn in the Market District — look around the shops, signs, and community boards nearby.
  3. Open your map (JourneyMap) and note landmarks around the hub.
  4. Activate the Market District Waystone so you can return here easily as you explore.

Travel

StoneHavenSMP gives you a few travel tools for a long-term world:

Waystones

An official Waystone network covers long-distance hubs. Wild Waystone generation and Waystone crafting are disabled. Each player is given one Waystone for a primary base; extra stones need a permit from the Waystone Permit Shop. Learn the full rules before placing anything yourself: Waystone Network.

Official global Waystones include:

  • Market District (also world spawn)
  • North Watch
  • South Reach
  • East Watch
  • West Hold

Nether portals

Nether portals support roof access, so you can build efficient Nether-roof routes between regions.

You may open a hole through the Nether roof to reach the Nether below. If you know how to do it safely, you are welcome to create one yourself. If you are unsure, ask staff in Discord — they will open an access hole for you.

Be considerate of shared portal areas and other players’ tunnels. Travel commands: Commands — Nether portals and roof access.

Teleport commands

Vanilla Tweaks teleport datapacks add /trigger commands for spawn (Market District), up to 3 homes, TPA, and back. Full list: Commands — Player teleportation.

Find a place to build

StoneHavenSMP does not use a land-claiming system. Respect still matters.

  • Leave generous space between your starter base and existing builds.
  • Avoid terraforming right against someone’s unfinished project.
  • Ask in Discord or in voice chat before connecting paths, rails, or tunnels into another player’s area.
  • Prefer exploring outward rather than squeezing into a dense neighborhood.

Full guidance: Building Etiquette.

Early survival priorities

  • Gather basic tools and food without looting player storage.
  • Set a home or temporary shelter you can find again.
  • Learn graves behavior so a death is recoverable: Graves.
  • Skim Community Rules once more after you settle.

Be a good neighbor

  • Do not take items from unmarked or marked player containers.
  • Repair accidental damage.
  • Keep farms and redstone reasonable for server performance.
  • Introduce yourself in Discord — collaboration is easier when people know who is nearby.
