Building Etiquette

How to choose a base location and respect neighboring players on StoneHavenSMP without a land-claiming system.

StoneHavenSMP expects players to respect one another’s space even though there is no land-claiming system. Your reputation is the claim.

Choosing a place to build

  • Explore beyond the first crowded hillside you see.
  • Leave generous buffers around existing bases and farms.
  • Consider future roads, views, and river access for everyone — not only yourself.
  • If a spot feels ambiguous, ask nearby players or staff before committing to a large footprint.

Give neighbors room

Avoid construction that sits unreasonably close to another player’s walls, gardens, or staged terraforming. “There was empty grass” is not the same as “this is considerate.”

Ask before connecting or expanding

Get permission before:

  • Merging builds
  • Tunneling into someone’s mountain
  • Extending bridges, railways, or ice roads through their area
  • Reshaping shared shorelines or forests they clearly maintain

Respect unfinished projects

Scaffolding, outlined plots, material crates, and partial terraforming usually mean someone is mid-project. Do not strip materials or overwrite the design.

Protect the landscape you share

  • Avoid needless quarrying scars beside someone’s scenic build.
  • Clean cobble generators, creeper holes, and leftover lava.
  • Repair accidental damage as soon as you can.

Shared projects need clear ownership signals

For community builds, label storage and describe who is leading the project in Discord or with in-game signs. Clarity prevents good-faith mistakes.

When boundaries are unclear

Contact staff. It is better to pause than to escalate a proximity dispute. Logging and rollback tools exist to repair harm, but prevention is kinder.
